#1. Raavan abducted Kaushalya

Raavan apparently abducted Kaushalya, Rama’s mother, long before his more famous abduction of Sita, Rama's wife. The story goes thus:

Raavan once approached Brahma, inquiring as to how his own death would come about. Brahma responded that the son of Kaushalya and Dasharath would be the cause of his death. Enraged, Raavan abducted Kaushalya just before her wedding and placed her in a box on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean. After sage Narada described her whereabouts to King Dasharath, he brought his army to rescue her.

#2. Shiva's bow?

While Tulsidas’s Ramayana makes a mention of prince Ram lifting the bow and arrow of Lord Shiva and it breaking during Sita's swayamvar, there is no mention of this incident in Valmiki’s Ramayana.

#3. Did Parashuram make an appearance?

Then, as per Shri Ramcharit Manas, though Parashuram had attended Sita’s swayamvar, according to Ramayana, he had made an appearance when Lord Rama was returning to Ayodhya after marrying Sita.

#4. Ram was not so young when he went into exile

It's really strange to imagine this but Lord Rama was not in his early twenties but almost 30 (a late age in those times) when he went into exile. He was, in fact, 27 years old. So, 14 years in the forest would have made him return to Ayodhya as a 41-year-old prince! Can you imagine that!

#5. Lakshman opposed his father

Not many know this, but when Lakshman came to know about Lord Rama being asked to go on exile, he was very angry and asked Rama to fight with his own father and usurp the throne! But Rama, as expected, convinced him of the right conduct.

#6. Dashrath's wealth for Rama

Apparently, when King Dashrath asked Lord Rama to go on exile to the forest, he wanted to send him with wealth to make his life as comfortable as he could. However, Kaikeyi didn’t allow that.

#7. Bharat foresaw Dasharath's death

Bharat came to know of his father, King Dashrath’s death, through a dream. He apparently saw his father wearing black clothes in the dream. When Lord Rama and Lakshman were searching for Sita in the forest, they had come across a demon, Kambadh, whom they killed. Actually Kambadh had become a demon due to a curse. When Lord Rama went to burn his dead body, his soul was relived from the curse and he told him to become friends with Sugreev.
